A scarce original Dutch brass hall lantern with a transitional art nouveau – art deco embossed design to the cap, and a glass cylinder shade with a more solidly geometric art deco design cut into it in three places against an etched matt background. The shade has an ‘oil spot’ iridescence to the interior, which shows through both the etched surfaces and the cut design, lending additional interest. The lantern was made in the Netherlands, and dates to around 1920.
The lantern comes with a length of very heavy, but later, solid brass chain with an unusual impressed design.
The lantern has been rewired with a brand new British-made solid brass Earthed B22 Bayonet cap bulb-holder, and a length of premium Italian double insulated three-core cable with a mottled grey linen braid that is both in-keeping with the period and brings the lantern up to modern safety standards.

Condition
There are signs of the original finish, but this has since been polished away. There is a small bit of unevenness to the brass cap (see final photo), but is otherwise in excellent condition. The glass is in perfect condition.
