A large and heavy cast iron plaque entitled ‘Foundrymen’ (1991), by British artist, Anna Bisset (1965-). In a style reminiscent of midcentury German brutalist foundry art, it depicts several workers directing a shank ladle over a casting mould, into which molten metal is being poured, with oversight provided, from a distance, by a suited foundry manager.
Perhaps best known for her public sculptures in and around London, this is an early piece that reflects the artist’s family business, Enfield Foundry, where this piece was cast.
The plaque is signed ‘AB’ to the bottom left corner. It has a sheet of plywood screwed to the verso.
