A scarce pair of small, but weighty, ribbed globe-shaped sommerso glass table lamps, with a core of pink, a layer of controlled bubbles (‘bullicante’), cased in a thick layer of clear. They were produced in the 1960s on the Island of Murano by the Archimede Seguso furnace.
The lamps have been dismantled, cleaned, and brought up to modern safety standards with new British-made lamp-holders with safety switches, a generous length of vintage style 3-core cable with an attractive gold silk braid, and a new 3-pin UK plug. Each lamp accepts a single B22 bayonet bulb.
The lamps are slightly different heights due to their handmade nature, but were bought as a pair and kept together from new, 60-70 years ago.
Both lamps bear their original gold foil labels, one nearly complete, the other partial. The Archimede Seguso furnace used these scalloped labels from the 1950s onwards.
