A large and heavy glass vase with a clear core and a cased purple exterior shot through with random bubbles. Acquired with a small collection of vintage bubbly glass by Riihimäen Lasi and Boda, but we have not been able to attribute it to a specific maker. Possibly Swedish in origin, and likely dating to the 1960s or a little later.
It was made using the ‘half-post’ technique, whereby a gather of glass is partially dipped into molten glass to maintain thickness during blowing. Originally used for producing durable bottles and thick-walled decanters, the technique was adopted more widely in Scandinavian decorative glass from the 1960s onwards, particularly for pieces combining contrasting layers.
Finished to the base with a large polished pontil mark.
