A period wrought iron pendant lamp, or lantern, in the form of a cage, decorated with Edgar Brandt-inspired symmetrical scrollwork between the bars, and surmounted with flowers and leaves, and finished with a muted gold enamel paint. Inside, the lamp-holder is covered with a decorative brass leaf-form cover, and to the top has a very robust brass chain. The lamp is British in origin, and, given how the design sits, stylistically, in the transition between art nouveau and art deco, likely dates to the 1920s or thereabouts.
When illuminated, the lamp will cast interesting shapes and shadows, and would be most apt in a hallway or vestibule.
The lamp has been cleaned, rewired, and brought up to modern electricity standards with a new British-made solid brass earthed lamp-holder and period-style twisted 3-core cable with an old gold silk braid.
The lamp accepts a single B22 bayonet cap bulb.
