A fun and entirely tasteless pottery table lamp in the form of a traditional Toby jug, a model called ‘The Boozer’, hand-painted in bright pink, petrol blue and golden ochre; a perfect match for a room that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It was made in England in the very late 1950s, or thereabouts, by John Shaw & Sons, under the trademark, Burlington Ware.
The lamp has been dismantled, cleaned, and brought up to modern electrical safety standards with a new British-made patinated brass lampholder with an integral safety switch, and a generous length of premium Italian 3-core cable with a period-correct mottled grey linen braid. Comes with a 3-Amp UK plug.
The lamp accepts a single B22 bayonet cap bulb.
Stamped indistinctly to the base: ‘Burlington Ware – J. Shaw & Sons Ltd. – England’ – a mark used c.1959-1963.
Height: 320 mm / 12.6"
Width or Diameter: 160 mm / 6.3"
Condition: Perfect and ready to use.
