A pair of near-antique brass gimballed lamps suitable for use as wall or table lamps. Designated, and stamped, Admiralty Pattern 9009, each lamp was made to Royal Navy specifications for service use, and was designed for use on ships, with a pivoting stem and a heavy counterweight that ensures the lamp stays straight on rough seas. These examples were produced in the 1930s or thereabouts by noted Scottish brass foundry, William McGeoch & Co. of Glasgow, who provided fittings for RMS Titanic and fabricated lighting designs for Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
The lamps have been rewired with generous lengths of premium Italian 3-core cable with a mottled grey linen braid, complete with UK 3amp plugs, so ready to use as table lamps or plugged-in wall sconces.
Each lamp accepts a single B22 bayonet cap bulb. They can each be wall-mounted from a single screw.
Each lamp is stamped ‘McG’ and ‘A.P. 9009’ to the base.
