A very scarce mid-century 'Chelsea' 5-drop cascade chandelier designed in 1958 by Peter Rodd & Richard Stevens for Thorn Atlas Lighting, England, with thick mouthblown controlled bubble glass shades by Whitefriars Glass. The shades are in the following Whitefriars colours: Cinnamon, Blue Cased, Ruby Cased, Golden Amber and Flint - the presence of Blue Cased dates the production to 1966-67, after which the colour was discontinued in favour of the lighter Kingfisher Blue.
The bulbs are concealed high within the chromed metal tubes, illuminating the glass shades indirectly, which makes them glow gently and highlights the controlled bubble pattern from above, as well as giving a soft, glare-free downlight.
The lamp comes with its original cast metal ceiling rose - the five-way version was discontinued around the time this lamp was produced, with only the single and three-way suspensions available thereafter.
Each pendant accepts a single B22 Bayonet bulb.
Some of the chromed cylinders retain their original Atlas labels.
