A very weighty near-antique owl-shaped table lamp made of carved oak, with an exotic hardwood base, both with a lustrous shellac finish. The owl has been carved all around, and with great detail and character - almost art deco in style, and has two green Lucite eyes. English in origin, and dates to the 1950s, perhaps a little earlier.
The lamp has a solid brass mount, and has been fitted with a new British-made solid brass B22 lamp-holder with a safety switch function, a generous length of premium Italian-made 3-core cable with a period-appropriate mottled grey linen braided sheath, and a new pure wool baize to the base. Supplied with a UK 3-pin plug.
The lamp accepts a single B22 bayonet cap bulb.
The owl is signed to the side, with P.J.C. stamped into the wood.
