An unusual globe-shaped white opaline glass pendant lamp with ‘Bovril’ hand-painted to the side in a highly stylised font the recalls Bovril’s advertising from the 1890s, complete with an old patinated brass gallery. Whilst certainly not an authentic Bovril advert and certainly not 130+ years old, it’s also certainly not a modern reproduction. It was probably painted in the 1960s or thereabouts by an amateur hand to decorate a shop or cafe in a traditional manner.
It would still look incredibly fun in a retail setting, or in a kitchen.
The lamp has been dismantled, cleaned and rewired with a brand new British-made patinated brass B22 bayonet lamp-holder and a length of premium Italian double-insulated 3-core cable with a vintage-style woven gold braid.
