An original, important, large and scarce vintage poster for 'Animacija' ('Animation') a 1974 exhibition of Croatian animated film from the zagrebačkoj školi crtanog filma (Zagreb School of Animated Film) at the Galerija suvremene umjetnosti (Gallery of Contemporary Art) in Zagreb, Croatia, in association with Zagreb Film. It's printed in blisteringly vibrant blue and red-orange with gold foil accents. The poster was designed by Croatian artist and graphic designer, Dalibor Martinis (1947-), and incorporates subtle, ingenious nods to the medium of animation. Most strikingly, the high contrast blue and red-orange colours create an optical illusion of movement when placed side-by-side. The text and logo superimposed and offset at an angle over the graphics printed in gold foil alludes to the transparent cells that animated films are made of. And finally, subtly, the superimposition is not exact, and the two horses of the Zagreb Film logo are made to look as though they're mid-coitus, equating the principle of rapid image change in film animation with a sexual act. Martinis said of this poster, "Obviously it amused me, but now that I look at those posters with hindsight, I think that it was also about Deleuze's Time-Image. In these solutions, again as an understatement, the idea of a process in time is visible, because, we agree - sex is a process."
